Upcoming River Trips

We are most likely to be paddling on the weekend of the second sunday of each month, with the exception of the New Years Overnight, Aniversary Day Trip, and Post Turkeyday trips.

Mullica River Overnight April 11-12

Straight forward overnight trip. We usually take less than 3 hours of paddling to reach camp. That's considerably faster than most groups. Outhouses, sandy soil, potable water source, no picnic tables or fire ring. Due to the new campsite reservation system, participants will have to make their own reservations for Mullica River Camp through http://www.reserveamerica.com. Since this will be the closest date to 9/11 that we will have a campfire and since no Muslim group has ever actually comdemned the Sept 11 attacks, if any trip participants wish to burn a Koran, we won't stop you.

Brownwater Training Trip May 9

We take some time to demonstrate and practice the paddling techniques needed to easily maneuver a canoe around the hairpin turns, downed trees and hidden stumps common on Pine Barrens, Brownwater rivers. The Oswego river is perfect for this trip as it starts on a quiet lake for learning the proper skills, and after portaging over the dam, it becomes a typical twisting and turning Brownwater river. After portaging over the second dam, there is a short run to Bodine's Field Campground where we usually stay.

Wading River Day Trip May 10

This is a fairly typical Pine Barrens River and is a favorite with the beer paddling crowd. They are sometimes entertaining, but this trip is best run off season. That's off season for them. We don't have an off season. We often run this trip the day after an Oswego river trip as the rivers converge and both lead back to Bodine's field campground. You get 2 trips for the same amount of gas.

Anniversary Day Trip June 13

For well over 2 decades this was our most popular trip. One year we had 58 rental canoes in addition to the people that own their own canoes. Thankfully, trips have been much smaller and more manageable since then. Usually run on or about Father's Day weekend, we paddle 10 to 16 miles of the Delaware River depending on conditions. We often camp on the river the night before or after for those that want to make a 2 day trip. Kayaks are OK on this trip, however this trip is not recomended for those suffering from Hoplophobia.

Salmon Run July 11-12-13 Batsto to Lower Forge and back

This offbeat trip is 12 miles of upstream paddling 10 miles downstream paddling and includes 1.3 miles of sand road portages and 1.6 miles of bushwacking through brush, over 4 days and 3 nights. This is a great trip to hone your portage trip skills before doing an extended Adirondack trip or just for the satisfaction of compleating the trip. For those less adventurous/confident, we sometimes run shorter versions of the trip. Due to the new campsite reservation system, participants will have to make their own reservations for Mullica River Camp and Lower Forge Camp through http://www.reserveamerica.com. This trip actually goes smoother on weekdays, as there are fewer rental watercraft comming downstream under varing degrees of control. The nickname "Salmon Run" is from salmon swimming upstream and dying. We try not to die. ;) Best run during June, July and September.

Delaware River Overnight August 8-9

As the water tends to run low and the bug population runs high during August in the Pine Barrens, The calm waters of the Delaware look more appealing. Primative camping, open air pit toilets unlikely, picnic tables even more unlikely, potable water almost nonexistant.
